A family is on trial in Geneva – four brothers and their 67-year-old mother – after two violent robberies in 2014 and 2017.

The men are aged between 30 and 37, the two eldest are twins. The defendants claim a harsh family background, an abusive father and a strict catholic upbringing for their life of crime. One told the court he’s finding prison easier.

The men are studying for degrees while locked up.

The court heard the family staged an armed robbery on an armoured truck in August 2014 and escaped with nearly a million francs of gold and watch pieces and then in 2016 raided a vault in Vernier where they stole CHF 600,000 and firearms.

The brothers admit they were at the robbery.

The trial continues.
