The initial results of an inquiry into alleged abuse and mismanagement at a children’s mental health care home in Geneva have revealed serious shortcomings.
The cantonal minister ultimately in charge, Anne Emery-Torracinta, says the state has failed.
The report shows residents were beaten, left in their own excrement and given unprescribed drugs.
The first conclusions suggest the Mancy care home in Collonge-Bellerive was failing as soon as it was set up in 2018. The experts say it was under pressure to open, the staff were ill-equipped, not trained and the premises was dilapidated.
Twenty recommendations put forward have been adopted, says the minister. But she’s attempting to distance herself from the scandal, saying she was unaware of the situation and politicians can’t be expected to know everything.
The outcome of criminal investigations and a parliamentary report are still unknown.
