Two Geneva communes are to provide free female sanitary products in public buildings and elementary schools.
Grand Saconnex and Meyrin say the move will help young girls access what they need and help remove the taboo surrounding menstruation.
But the communes can only help the very young as secondary schools are run by the canton – and there are no plans yet to extend the scheme canton wide.
Backers say they hope the move will pressure Geneva to do the same.
