Geneva climate protestors have fine slashed

Briken Chair, Place des Nations - (c) wikipedia

Three climate activists have had their fines cut by a court for climbing the broken chair on the Place des Nations last year.

The protestors climbed up the chair, unveiled a banner and lit flares.

They were initially fined CHF 2,500. The main offence being the use of pyrotechnics.

The police said they dumped the flares on the ground after use.

The protestors told an appeal court, while they did drop the spent flares on the ground – they picked everything up afterwards. They explained they didn’t want to damage the chair.

Video evidence after the protest showed no mess had been left behind.

The fine was cut to CHF 200.
