Geneva car dealership to close

Jeep Avenger - no one wants one

A major car dealership in Geneva is to close – with the loss of 27 jobs.

Car sales in Switzerland have stalled and garages are struggling across the country.

The drop in sales has proven to be too much for the Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Jeep dealership in Meyrin. It will close by the end of the year.

The head of the Geneva section of the Swiss Professional Automobile Union, Thierry Bolle, says the sector is in difficulty. He points out to the Tribune de Genève that new car registrations have fallen by 20% over the last four years.

He says people are putting off buying a new car as they’re torn between electric, hybrid or petrol.

To outline the problems, the Meyrin dealership is said to have 30 new Jeep Avengers - a fully electric version of the traditional brand.

No one wants them.
