Geneva businesses call on govt to protect against G7 violence

Business groups in Geneva are raising alarm ahead of the upcoming G7 summit in nearby France, fearing a repeat of past unrest.

The local business groups are urging the cantonal government to take preventive measures before the June summit in Évian.

The concerns stem from the violent fallout of the 2003 G8 summit which was also held in Evian, when protests spilled into Geneva, causing widespread damage.

Retail and hospitality leaders say the sector is already fragile and warn that another wave of unrest could have serious economic consequences.
