France is suffering a major nursing crisis – and Switzerland is being partly blamed.
The mayor of Annemasse in France, Christian Dupessey, says French qualified nurses are attracted to Switzerland as the salaries are higher. He’s saying those nurses who have been trained in France should commit themselves to work in their country for a period of time after qualifying – at least 5 years, or they have to pay back the cost of their training.
But Dupessey says he’s not blaming Switzerland. He says there’s a lack of qualified staff across France, and that’s a French problem.
He points out there are similar issues in French border towns with Germany.
He says France and Geneva should be working together to find a solution.
