A chaotic scene unfolded at Geneva Airport over the weekend as thousands of pieces of luggage were left stranded due to a breakdown in the baggage delivery system as the airport dealt with an unprecedented number of daily passengers – 80,000 – a new record.
The Airport say problems started on Saturday afternoon. The peak travel day followed the Christmas holiday rush, traditionally one of the busiest weekends of the year.
While the system was back to normal yesterday, passenger traffic remained high, with over 73,000 expected at the airport.
The previous record for single-day traffic, set in 2020, was 77,400 passengers.
