Geneva school decision to go to court

Canton Geneva’s decision to ban children who don’t live in the canton from attending its schools will be challenged in court.

Around 2,500 children attend Geneva schools while living outside the canton – mainly in France.

The Council of State has decided that no new students who live outside Geneva will be accepted from the start of school next year. While kids can finish the current cycle, it does mean that 1,000 will not be able to end their studies in Geneva.

48 families are taking the case to the constitutional court.

The decision has also angered French educational authorities, which fear there isn’t enough capacity to take in ineligible children.
