Gamekeepers shot wrong wolves

Gamekeepers in canton Valais have shot many of the wrong wolves.

The canton was given permission to cull by the Federal Environment Office after a series of attacks on livestock.

But DNA analysis on the 27 dead animals show half of them were from different packs than the one targeted.

The figures were discovered under the freedom of information act by the Blick newspaper.

It’s thought the wrongly targeted wolves were simply passing through another pack’s territory.

Some are criticising the canton for not having  enough up to date information on the movements of the predators.
