A reform of unemployment insurance rules for cross-border workers has cleared a key step in the European Parliament.
The change could significantly reshape how jobless benefits are financed between Switzerland and neighbouring countries.
Under the proposal, cross-border workers who lose their jobs would receive unemployment benefits from the country where they worked, rather than their country of residence.
The move could cost this country almost a billion francs.
Around 400,000 people work in Switzerland while living in a neighbouring country.
