French speaking cantons unite against SSR vote

The French-speaking cantons are drawing a firm line against cutting the licence fee that funds the Swiss public broadcaster, the SSR.

With a vote set for March 8th on the “200 francs is enough!” initiative, western Swiss governments warn linguistic minorities have the most to lose.

Despite their concerns, a new Tamedia poll shows voters split down the middle, including in French-speaking Switzerland.

Cantonal leaders warn the cut would weaken regional m
media and push production toward Zurich.
