French residents could lose Swiss TV

Television viewers in neighbouring France could soon lose access to Swiss TV channels.

It’s thought thousands watch Swiss TV every day – especially news and current affairs programmes.

Many residents close to the border are Swiss nationals and many more want to feel connected to the country they work in.

The channels have been carried by a French digital transmitter company that’s been paid from a grant from a cross-border coordination group. But that’s not been renewed.

The issue has even reached the French parliament. A member of the French national assembly, Géraldine Grangier, is demanding the transmission is saved, arguing Swiss French Television offers high quality programming.

The cost of this every year – EUR 30,000.
