French/Geneva border will move - a little

The border between Geneva and France will have to be adjusted – but exactly where has yet to be determined.

There are three changes in the works – two involve rivers.

A renaturation project along the Hermance river will mean a slight change as will a damming project on the Foron.

The new tram line running to Saint-Julien will require the border to move a little.

There is a committee for this – the Franco-Swiss joint commission for the Demarcation and Maintenance of the National Border.

There are three drafts of a possible agreements.

As the changes are minor, the Federal Council can simply sign off. The last change to the border was finalized in 2001, relating to the border post at Bardonnex.  But talks had been going on since 1950.
