A French politician from the bordering department of Doubs is calling on Paris to end the requirement that travellers into France have to show a negative covid test.
Although there are exceptions for those living in border areas and cross-border workers, most people who want to go into France have to spend around CHF 150 and undergo the uncomfortable test.
Annie Genevard who represents the region in the National Assembly says the requirement is hitting the local economy as Swiss shoppers are staying away.
Speaking to the local press in Neuchatel she says trade is suffering in the absence of Swiss customers and wants to see the end of the tests for the French reopening of shops due on May 19th.
If her calls are successful, it would be a change in the law affecting the whole of France.
