A compromise over free tests may be reached between parliament and the government later today.
The Federal Council says it wants to end free testing next month. But already there are splits. The finance minister, Ueli Maurer, has changed his mind since the decision and now want free tests to stay.
But other members want the unvaccinated and asymptomatic people to pay.
Commentators are speculating the government may be open to a compromise as the people will be voting on Covid restrictions in November following a successful people’s initiative.
Options being mentioned are an extension for 4 weeks, allowing people a certain number of free tests a month and some groups could be allowed free tests, such as students.
