The State Secretariat for Migration has confirmed it’s started to deport Afghan nationals back to their home country.

It’s the first forced deportations since 2019.

On Friday, the Secretariat says two Afghan nationals have been returned to Kabul. They flew on a scheduled Turkish Airline flight – through Istanbul.

They were given CHF 500 in cash to cover their immediate needs when arriving in the country.

The deportees are described as serious criminals.

They were accompanied by Swiss police officers as far as Istanbul - who also made sure they boarded the flight to Afghanistan. But they did not travel further as authorities say their safety cannot be guaranteed.

Furter deportations are planned, but details are never released beforehand.
