Heavy storms swept across many areas of the country yesterday afternoon and into the evening.
Flood waters forced guests and staff at a hotel in the Bernese Oberland to flee to the upper floors.
The storm - which staff at the hotel described as catastrophic on Instagram – swelled the Emme River which burst its banks and sent a massive amount of water crashing through the ground floor of the hotel in the town of Schangnau in the Emmental, sweeping parked cars out of its path.
Those in the hotel were able to leave later, unharmed.
The flash flood only lasted for around an hour. Authorities are warning people to stay away.
Elsewhere, the rain caused a massive landslide near the Lichtenstein capital Vaduz, a train near Brienz was derailed after hitting a fallen tree – passengers were evacuated safely – a parked car was washed into lake Brienz and streets in Lucerne were flooded.
The storms soon passed and the all-clear was given overnight. There are no reports of injuries.
