First Ukrainian children start school in Geneva

The Geneva education department says it will not hesitate to open new classes to deal with Ukrainian children now arriving in the canton.

So far 50 children have started school – but more are coming.

It’s expected the children will be in the system for some time – so the department says all efforts will be made to integrate the new comers as soon as possible.

The children will be placed in age-appropriate classes and schools will be given all the help they need, says the education department.

Schools in canton Vaud are also welcoming Ukrainian children and the canton says it will provide intensive French lessons for them. The canton expects it may have to deal with 2,500 children – but it’s unsure of the time frame.
