Fewer homes available

Switzerland’s housing shortage is deepening.

According to new figures from the Federal Statistics Office, only 1% of the country’s housing stock was vacant on June 1st - down for the fifth year in a row.

Geneva remains the tightest market, with just 0.3% of homes available, followed by Zurich at 0.4%.

Only Solothurn and Jura report vacancy rates above 2%.

Nationwide, 37,194 rental properties stood empty - 3,200 fewer than a year earlier, an 8% drop.

Properties for sale also fell, with just over 11,200 unoccupied.
