Federal Councilor grounded by French air force

Federal councillor, Alain Berset, was forced to land his private plane by the French air force after it’s thought he misunderstood air traffic control instructions and drifted into banned airspace.

Berset was flying alone in a rented light aircraft last week. He’s held a pilot’s licence for around 10 years.

In a statement from the government, it says Berset was interviewed by French authorities who concluded it was a genuine mistake and Berset was able to continue his flight.

Press reports say the French president Emmanuel Macron was informed about the incident as it involved a member of a foreign government.
