Federal Council to reveal new regulations later today

The Federal Council will be announcing later today if the partial lockdown will be lifted a bit – or if we are going to have to put up with the restrictions for a little longer.

It’s a tough decision - and ministers will be under pressure on all sides.

Those calling for no-change are pointing out the number of cases is up and the virus is spreading exponentially. There are also fears of the new variants and one has now been found in France which seems can’t be detected by current tests.

The economy wouldn’t benefit from an opening if new lockdowns have to be brought in again later – experts say it will actually be more damaging.
But those on the other side say any lifting would be limited, restaurants could only serve outdoors, it’s costing billions of francs and people are tired of the limitations, which is having a serious affect on mental health.

Both sides seem to be using the vaccine roll out to support their different views. Those against any lifting say the programme is too slow – but others say it’s encouraging. Most of the over 75s have been jabbed and the next age bracket will soon be eligible.
