Farmers want vote on EU agreement

The Swiss Farmers’ Union has come out in principle in favour of the new package of agreements between Switzerland and the European Union, but it still has reservations.

It’s concerned by the agreement which would allow the adoption of dynamic agreement of EU food laws. It says that’s a loss of sovereignty.

But there are many aspects of the proposed agreement which it sees as an improvement.

The Union wants a mandatory referendum, requiring a double majority before any deal is approved.

That means it as to be agreed by the majority of the people and most of the cantons.
