The train company that runs services through the channel tunnel says it wants to develop a route from London to Geneva.
Eurostar says the conditions are right to bring in a new age of sustainable travel.
It also plans to open a route to Frankfurt. It already runs services from London to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam.
The time to Geneva would be about 5 hours.
Eurostar says the number of flights between the two cities shows there’s a clear demand.
The rail company is acting fast as it fights off potential competition. It could lose the monopoly on cross channel services to operators that have already expressed an interest, such as the Virgin Group, Italian State Railways and a new start-up, Gemini trains.
The routes could be running in about 6 years.
