The European Commission has announced that it will participate "with pleasure" in June’s peace conference on Ukraine that Switzerland will hold in Buergenstock in Canton Nidwalden.
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock welcomed the Swiss project. “In light of Russian President Vladimir Putin's violence in Ukraine, it is all the more important that we, as a global community, make it known that we want peace,” she said.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov spoke out yesterday against the peace talks saying that a negotiation process without Russia's participation made "no sense."
In the meantime, preparations have already begun. The cantonal police of Nidwalden and Lucerne, the army and other police forces will be responsible for security. Airspace restrictions will be in place and even restrictions on various hiking trails in the canton are possible before and during the conference.
