Escalade Races this weekend - with a Green twist

The Escalade races are on in Geneva this weekend. Organisers hope a slightly modified schedule will mean a more relaxed and better spread-out weekend – and new rules will also make it more environmentally friendly.

It all starts at 1130 on Saturday morning with the junior races and ends with the Marmite fun run, with thousands in costumes.

Sunday morning will be a parents/children run for kids aged between 4 and 5. Sunday afternoon will get more serious with the Elite races.

A big change this year will be at the food stands. They have to issue reusable plates and cutlery. Users will be asked to return them to various points around the city.

The system is being run as a bit of an experiment. Organisers will be watching how it works carefully – it may be modified next year.
