Elderly man held up at gun point

An elderly man was held up at gun point in the Geneva commune of Meiner and a man who came to his rescue was severely beaten.

The two men had just attended a meeting of the local branch of the Swiss People’s Party. The man who came to the rescue of the victim is the local head of the party, Lionel Dugerdil.

The elderly man handed over his wallet and watch to the two robbers – but refused a give a them a gold chain, which was a gift from his late wife.

Dugerdil spotted the robbery and shouted, the gun was then pointed at him. He was then severely beaten by the robber who also took his watch and wallet. The two then fled on a scooter.

Police say they’re hunting for the robbers, but their initial investigations suggest they’re not local.
