Economy better than thought

Switzerland’s economy looks bigger than previously thought.

The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs has revised GDP figures all the way back to 1995.

By using new data sources and improved calculation methods, the revision boosts economic output by an average of 1.8 percentage points.

For some years, the increase is modest, but from 2021 onwards, the gap jumps to more than 3 points.

At current prices, GDP in 2024 is now estimated at CHF 854 bn - up 2.4 percent.

So, the economy didn’t suddenly grow overnight, but statisticians now say it’s been stronger all along.
