The number of accidents involving e-scooters is soaring. Figures from the health insurer Suva show there were three times more last year compared to 2019.
In a report in yesterday’s NZZ newspaper, police reports suggest there are 200 accidents a year – but the Accident Prevention Office believes that number is far higher as not all are reported.
The Suva numbers show the main victims are aged between 25 and 44 – and most are men. In 36% of cases, alcohol was listed as factor.
