Swimming in Lake Geneva has been banned in Vengeron and Pregny-Chambésy after a sewerage pipe burst.
The decision was made by the cantonal medical service after E.coli hit dangerous levels.
The pipes were damaged by building works near the airport. As soon as the damage was discovered, waste pumping was stopped and the emergency services started a dilution operation.
Authorities stress there’s no danger to drinking water.
