Dusk warning for drivers

With the nights getting longer and dusk getting earlier, drivers are being warned to watch out for wild animals on the roads.

The AXA car insurance firm says accidents with animals cost them over CHF 11m a year – and costs are rising.

The firm says it’s common the animals will stop and lick salt off the side of the roads – and they’re hard to see in the dark.

Vaud is one of the worst cantons in the country for wild animal accidents – together with Jura, Fribourg and Graubünden.

In 2021, the Federal Roads Office, says 96 people died or were injured due to collisions.

The law says for serious accidents, you must stop and call the police. It’s also advised not to approach an injured animal.
