New drivers will need to know how to use driver assist technology to pass a test from July.
Knowledge of how the systems work will form part of the driving test - both the theory and the practical – from the summer.
Michael Gehrken, the head of the driving instructor association, L-Drive, says the aim is drivers know the limitations and risks of the technology.
He says there’s a major difference between assist and automation.
The new tests will include knowing the systems, how to use them and what they can’t do.
