Drivers stuck as extremely long red light

Motorists in Milvignes in canton Neuchatel are voicing frustration over long waits at a key set of traffic lights.

The red light can be unchanged for as long as 5 minutes.

Some are calling for a return to flashing amber signals, used during past roadworks.

But local authorities say that’s not an option, citing safety risks for cyclists.

The delays are largely due to priority given to trams.

Officials insist the current system remains the safest solution, noting there are no rules on maximum waiting times at lights.
