Driver complains of severe snow punishment

To hammer home the message that it’s important to clear your car of snow – including the roof, a woman is facing a CHF 700 fine and a month’s licence suspension.

The Geneva Cantonal Office of Vehicles only determined the punishment in April.

She believes the punishment is too severe and that there are mitigating circumstances that need to be taken into account.

The woman was stopped in Geneva last December. The police say there was too much snow on the roof of her car and it was a danger to other road users.

Her lawyer says it’s absurd and questioned how much damage the snow from the top of a mini cooper could actually do.

The woman added that she has to travel to hospital often as she’s being treated for cancer.

She’s lodged an appeal.
