Dog owner fined after heat deaths

A dog owner whose animals died in an overheated car in the summer of 2023 has been fined by a Geneva court.

The man was working at an outdoor event and explained that he took the dogs with him as there was no one to care for them at home.

He left them in the car due to other dogs around. He told the court they were being aggressive.

He explained he asked others to keep an eye on them and he left the windows of the car partially open, but it appears someone else inadvertently closed them.

There were three dogs: Two died and one later recovered. The court fined him CHF 4,000; a reduced amount as judges accepted he wasn’t completely to blame.
