A doctor at an old peoples’ home in Haute Savoie is being investigated following the deaths of several residents.

The 64-year-old has been working at the home since 2019. The investigations started in December, but have just been confirmed by the local prosecutor’s office in Annecy.

The doctor is suspected of prematurely ending the lives of residents aged between 85 and 90 years old. A lawyer for the home in Thyez says at least eight deaths are being looked into.

Prosecutors stress the home’s management is not under investigation and it remains uncertain if the doctor’s acts were criminal or formed part of normal medical practice when in a palliative care environment.
