Selling disposable e-cigarettes in Geneva are now illegal.
The canton’s new ban is officially in force, and anyone caught selling them faces fines of up to CHF 40,000.
The government says the move is about protecting health and the environment.
But tobacco giant Philip Morris is fighting back, arguing that federal law still allows their sale and that Geneva’s decision creates confusion across Switzerland.
Authorities stress that rechargeable electronic cigarette devices remain legal.
For now, though, shops in the canton will have to play by the new rules.
