A disabled prisoner has been held in Geneva’s University Hospital’s prison unit for more than a year with no access to light or activities.
The small unit is designed to house prisoners who need medical treatment – it’s not for long term use.
But for the last 17 months a 46-year-old Panamanian paraplegic has been held on drugs charges under orders of a court in canton Vaud.
He’s considered a flight risk.
Authorities say it’s the only place that’s suitable for those with reduced mobility.
