Details of major fuel spill just released

It’s been revealed that back in April last year, 1,500 litres of fuel was spilled at the storage depot in Vernier.

The accident happened during a transfer operation between two of the large tanks. The company that operates the depot, Petrostock, took three days to notify the canton.

Investigations have been carried out and the company says the spill doesn’t present a danger to the public or their staff.

The incident has again raised the question of the presence of 31 large fuel tanks within the urban environment. But the canton says there’s a concession in place that runs until the year 2062.

It’s still being determined who should pay for the decontamination.
