Court kills 30 kph limit in Geneva

Several sections of roads in Geneva that have had a new 30 kph limit imposed will probably revert to 50 after a court ruling.

The Administrative Court says the canton has not undertaken sufficient studies on the impact of the new limit.

It will affect around 450 roads.

It seems unlikely the 30 kph will return anytime soon. While the ruling can be appealed, the canton is signalling it won’t.

A spokesman for the Transport department says it want to move away from the judicialization of the matter and will work with all stakeholders to move forward.

The court did not question the reasoning of the limit, to improve road safety and cut traffic noise.
