In Geneva, a court has refused to suspend a controversial decision that will bar non-resident students from the canton’s public schools.
The Constitutional Chamber rejected a request from five families whose children live in France but attend school in Geneva, saying the chances of overturning the measure were not clear enough to justify putting the decision on hold.
The policy will force more than 1,000 cross-border students out of Geneva’s school system by 2026.
Families argue the change disrupts children already enrolled and breaks earlier assurances, but the government says schools are under severe pressure.
A petition with more than 4,000 signatures has been submitted, and French and Geneva authorities are set to meet next week as diplomatic tensions grow.
French authorities fear their schools won’t have the capacity to handle the displaced students.
