City places information boards about new bridge

In a rather unusual move, the City of Geneva has placed information panels about the proposed pedestrian bridge that would be built near the Mont-Blanc bridge.

It’s unusual because tax payer money is being used for the panels – the aim is to inform the public ahead of the vote later this month.

There are strict rules on how public money is used ahead of votes.

But the city’s planning minister, Frédérick Perler, says the signs have a neutral stance and they have been checked for their legality.

The cost of the bridge, at CHF 55m, has already been cleared by the City Council, but was forced to a vote by groups opposed to the cost and want to keep Geneva’s heritage.
