Choose driving schools carefully - many unlicensed

Bargain driving lessons are raising red flags across French-speaking Switzerland.

For as little as CHF 20 an hour - a third of the price charged by certified schools  - unlicensed instructors are offering lessons without any federal training or authorization.

Professional associations say the practice is illegal and dangerous.

These fake instructors often disappear before exam day to avoid being caught, and many have no insurance - leaving students unprotected in the event of an accident.

Officials warn the issue affects all cantons, especially those bordering France, and urge learners to check that their instructor is fully certified.
