The Chinese electric car maker, BYD, has launched in Switzerland.
Its first Swiss branch opened in Zurich yesterday.
The company has firm plans to become a serious player in Europe – it will be opening shops throughout the continent. It’s already the largest electric car maker my revenue and made 150,000 more cars than Tesla last year.
The first models on sale are the Seal Sedan and the Sealion 7 SUV – costing nearly CHF 50,000.
It’s clear BYD is targeting the top end of the market as it’s not selling, yet, lower priced vehicles – which it does make.
But car experts say there’s no point in it flooding the market with cheaper models at the moment as the charging structure is not ready here.
