Burglars in Geneva are increasingly targeting apartment cellars, with break-ins jumping 65 percent in a single year
The cantonal police logged 668 cellar burglaries in 2025, as better-secured flats push thieves toward easier targets like bike storage.
Bikes, e-bikes and scooters are the main prizes, says police spokesperson Aline Dard, who advises residents to add padlocks and keep valuables out of sight.
Neighbouring Valais and Neuchâtel are also reporting broader rises in burglaries this year, up 19 and 16 percent respectively.
