Children could start to get vaccinated next month

As more and more adults get the vaccine – when should children start being vaccinated?

Urs Karrer, Vice President of the Corona Task Force says it would be sensible to start vaccinating those under 16 in the next few weeks.

It will require the regulator Swissmedic to authorise the vaccine for children, which means it won’t happen before June, according to Karrer.
But he says they predict 60% of children and teenagers will become infected over the next two years and it’s inevitable that some will end up in intensive care.

Canadian regulators have become the first in the world to allow those between 12 and 16 to get a jab.

Regulators in the US and EU are also actively examining the safety of the vaccine in children.
