Researchers at the University of Bern say genetic changes in cat tumours closely mirror those seen in human breast cancer - a discovery that could open new paths for treatment.
In the first comprehensive global study of feline cancer, published in Science, scientists analysed tumour samples from nearly 500 cats across five countries.
The gene most often implicated was FBXW7, it’s linked to aggressive breast cancer in humans.
The team identified 31 cancer-related genes, highlighting striking similarities between species.
