The fallout from recent Administrative Court rulings on Geneva's vehicle tax system could have major financial consequences for the canton.
According to estimates compiled by the Tribune de Genève, the theoretical annual difference between the current tax calculation method and the one supported by the court amounts to around CHF 50m.
More than 150,000 vehicles would show a positive difference between the two calculation methods, potentially leading to lower tax bills for many motorists.
The government is expected to examine its legal options in the coming weeks, while parliament debates how to respond to the potentially significant loss of revenue.
