The canton of Lucerne is pushing the federal government to ban conversion therapies.
The cantonal parliament has passed a motion which demands Bern stop treatments which claim can change a person’s sexual orientation.
Only the Swiss People’s Party voted against.
The motion was proposed by the Liberal Green Party member, Mario Cozzio, who compared the so-called treatments with the earlier methods to try to change someone who was left-handed.
He says homosexuality is not a disease and does not require therapy.
While other cantons have brought in their own regulations against the practice – such as Bern. The Lucerne motion is solely aimed at changing the law on a national level.
