Federal health authorities are angry with canton Sankt Gallen as it's allowing meat that’s been contaminated with PFAS chemicals to be sold across the country.
PFAS are sometimes known as ‘forever chemicals’ as they’re very hard to break down.
Last year Sankt Gallen said it had discovered excessive amount in meat made in the canton, but didn’t close the farms and allowed the meat to be sold. So, it’s available across the country.
The Sankt Gallen Office for Consumer Protection says the meat isn’t actually toxic and can be consumed.
But the Federal Food Safety Office is disagreeing and says it believes the canton is not complying with the law.
